The story of Serving Beyond Borders began during a global conference in 1982 with the call of God on Doug & Paula Ley to be a part of fulfilling God’s Great Commission to "go to all the world and preach the Gospel." After an extended season of growth and preparation, the Ley’s unexpectedly had their calling paused while God called them to lead a church in Northeast Ohio for a time. It was a great season in which to hone their ministry skills and raise their children. Then after 7 years the Lord called Doug & Paula to leave their idyllic life and fulfill the calling He gave in 1982. So they sold their house, gave away their possessions and packed up suitcases and moved to the Middle East where they served in Bible Colleges and Seminaries, teaching and making disciples.
Upon returning from serving 12 years in the Middle East by a call from their home church, the Lord birthed a new vision in their hearts. So again Doug & Paula responded to God's call to begin a faith-based ministry to help Believers world-wide…truly, Serving Beyond all Borders.
As this movement of SBB increases we recognize that just like the Christian life, things that are healthy will grow. With a heart that every man, woman, and child have a chance to hear about Jesus and live an empowered life, our team continues to grow as our ministry opportunities increase. It is only the beginning and while many people say “The Best is Yet to Come,” SBB truly believes it because our God is the God of the future who is desires all people to be saved!
